Person living with disabilities in Kisii County have decried lack of physical facilities to enable the disabled people to access various buildings while in search of various services as well as lack of special seats in public service vehicles.
Speaking to the media in Kisii on Tuesday, a group of persons living with disabilities said at times they are forced to hire helps to carry them up the buildings.
According to Mary Nyanchoka, one of the group members, most building in Kisii town do not have special pavement for the disabled hence making it difficult for them to access them.
“It is very embarrassing for us to come all the way by ourselves only to require someone to carry us up a government building’ she added
Mary speaking on the gains so far achieved said Kisii County Government has established a Directorate to spearhead the cause of the people living with disabilities.
She added that they are happy hough with the county for it has already started to carry out a census for all the PWDs in the county to enable the government address and articulate their issues appropriately.
The census she said will enable the government to plan and allocate the requisite resources accurately to all the persons living with disabilities.
