A supplier of pharmaceutical products has decried the increase of counterfeits in the market saying vice is costing them millions of shillings.
Peter Baker who is the Chief Operating Officer of the UK-based Goodlife Pharmaceuticals Limited has attributed the problem to lack of strong anti-counterfeit laws in the country.
"In the West, there are also counterfeits but there are stringent measures to stem the vice. We hope that all the relevant authorities involved in the fight against fake goods such as the anti-Counterfeit agency, the Pharmacy and Poisons Board (PBK) of Kenya will emulate their western counterparts to reduce counterfeits," said Baker.
He at the same time accused unscrupulous traders of tampering with their products and rebranding them before selling them to unsuspecting consumers.
He has now called for enactment of stronger anti-counterfeit laws to curb the vice.
"PBK needs to do more because the market seems unregulated," he added.
He was speaking in Naivasha on Friday during the opening of the first ultra-modern pharmacy at Buffalo Mall.
