Nakuru government is set to launch the second phase of the street lighting and beautification project in collaboration with the Kenya Power, Deputy Governor Joseph Ruto has said.

Speaking in Bahati on Thursday after officiating the official opening of a power substation in the constituency, Ruto noted that the project will not only help fight crime but also assist in making the city look beautiful.

“After recording 100 percent success in the first phase, the second phase is soon rolling out. We are in the final stages of processing some details entailing the partnership before we put pen to paper and hitting the ground,” he said.

The Bahati substation which is estimated to have coasted about 387M is set to improve KPLC’s service delivery as the company strides towards ensuring the government’s rural electrification project is achieved.

According to the deputy governor, such projects are important in boosting the county’s economy by empowering young innovative minds who can make use of the important but scarce commodity to change their livelihoods.

“We encourage youths to engage in small scale enterprises that will see them become self-reliant and achieve the basic dream of becoming independent,” he noted.

Ruto further advised the youth to form groups and apply for government grants that will give them a base in starting the businesses.

Among the businesses that are expected to come up in the area are power car wash, salons and barber shops, welding, joinery and jua kali yards, cyber cafes and movie shops.
