Victims of gender based violence can now report offences committed against them after Peace Initiative Kenya (PIK) opened offices in Kisii town.

The offices are also set to serve the neighboring Nyamira and Migori counties to provide legal help and counsel victims of sexual violence.

Speaking during the launch of the offices in Kisii town on Wednesday, PIK Public Relations Secretary Charles Mogambi said both male and female victims will be served at the centre.

“As PIK, we are happy that USAID will be working with us to end the gender based violence," he said.

"It cuts across the genders and it is no longer a women's issue. Even men are becoming victims. Our aim is to give them counseling and legal services so that we curb the violence."

Mr Mogambi said the organisation will work closely with the provincial administration to ensure justice for the victims at the rural areas.

“We have deployed our officers to a number of sub-counties in Southern Nyanza and we hope the provincial administration will help us deal with the issue," he added.

"But importantly, victims should be open and report the cases to our offices for help."

The organisation reiterated its confidence in reducing the gender based violence and by integrating victims with the society through counseling to fight stigma and also working with the office of Ombudsman to expedite justice.
