Residents of Pipeline area along the Nakuru-Nairobi highway on Wednesday received free eye checkup from MACHO Optician clinicians during a medical camp at Pipeline trading center.

The free services were aimed at reaching out to those who do not go to hospital for treatment fearing cost implications.

The outreach co-coordinator for the facility, Zainab Juma said they receive more patients through outreach programmes.

She said patients were finding it more convenient to be referred to particular facilities offering them the services they require after diagnosis.

''This is because they spend a lot of time and money going back and forth from one health center to another,'' said the optician.

Juma said majority of those who attend the programmes were elderly people who complain of persistent eye aches or were using expired spectacles.
