Nyakongo residents have praised a plan by the county government of Nyamira to hire more ECDE teachers.

Recently, Governor John Nyagarama said the county government had set aside enough money in the financial year 2015/16 that will be used solely for the exercise.

Speaking on Tuesday at Nyakongo area during a funeral service, residents lauded the move and said it would reduce the overload on ECDE teachers who have seen rapid enrollment of children at ECDE institutions.

“We want to put it clear that we support the county government in all matters relating development. We had requested that each ECDE institution to have at least two teachers and that is what the county has promised to do. The number of pupils joining has substantially increased and that is why it is important,” said Joseph Matoke.

They urged the county government to ensure each public school had an ECDE facility to reduce the distance that may be travelled to get the services by learners.

“I urge the county government to use the Sh100 million that they have set for construction of classes in setting the structures in public schools which are not served with the facility yet,” added Tinah Mogambi.

They, however, called for transparency during the recruitment exercise to boost their image, and improve from the previous exercise, which was marred wiht bribery claims.

“We understand what happened during the first recruitment and now, the county has a chance to improve its public image by making the exercise free, transparent and fair,” added James Omang’i.
