Maseno residents have reacted angrily after it emerged that their quest for the supply of clean and sufficient water will be delayed for four years.
According to Kisumu North West Member of County Assembly Otieno Ombogo, the county government plans to supply the town with water in 2019, a move that has not gone down well with the residents.
Speaking to Hivisasa on Wednesday, the residents accused the county of not having their interests at heart. They said that getting clean water is their right adding that the issue should have been dealt with a long time ago.
“I wonder what the county government is thinking. Where shall we get water from, all this time we have been complaining about our desire to have clean water and now we have to wait for more years,” said Evans Kimeli.
The residents said that they are tired of buying water from vendors who over charge them despite the fact that the water’s safety is questionable.
According to Ombogo, the government is aware that Maseno residents are in dire need of water, and this admission has angered the locals even more.
“It is ridiculous because any government that is aware of the needs of its people acts immediately to ensure that is addressed. It ought not to delay it further,” said Agnes Omondi.
The residents have urged the county government to set it priorities clear and provide them with clean water.
