The Controller of Budget Agnes Odhiambo has urged Kenyans to play an oversight role on how public funds are utilised by various authorities.

She said the public should keep the authorities on their toes to ensure that every cent counts.

Odhiambo said Kenyans have the mandate to play an oversight role as enshrined in the constitution, and that they should ensure that every public cent is accounted for instead of complaining when funds go to waste.

"The public has been in the forefront blaming the government for loss of funds by certain leaders but it is their right to keep the leaders on their toes. In case there is any misappropriation, they should report the matter to the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission to take action,”she said.

She added that they are embarking on a capacity building programme to educate all county staff on devolution so that all pieces of legislations passed benefit the common mwananchi.

She spoke in Eldoret on Wednesday during the 4th Annual Congress of Chairpersons of Constitutional Commissions and Independent Offices at County Hall.
