Escalation of cases of insecurity in Kisii town has been blamed on the increasing number of commercial sex workers.

This has prompted top security officers led by Kisii County Police Commander, Samuel Kiragu to issue a warning against those in the business to stop before the law catches up with them.

The warning comes two weeks after two women suspected to be in the business were raped and murdered by unknown assailants before being dumped on the streets in two separate incidences.

Speaking to the press on Monday in his office, Kiragu vowed not to relent in the fight against insecurity calling for public support and cooperation.

He said that security agents have devised mechanisms which will ensure all commercial sex workers in the town are flushed out.

“We are saddened by the recent happenings in Kisii Town. We believe these cases are escalated by twilight girls. The most recent scenarios are where two women suspected to be commercial sex workers were raped before being killed by unknown people just along our streets,” Kiragu said.

Those in the business should support us in this move as it is meant to enhance their security too. Why engage in a business that is endangering your life as much as there are economic hardships?” he questioned.

His sentiments were echoed by Kisii Central OCS, Joseph Ndolo who said that the recent acts of insecurity targeting commercial sex workers may soon be directed to innocent members of the public.

However, he added that security agents will not condone acts of gang rape directed towards the sex workers terming it as a selfish and cowardly act.

“We have dealt with two cases with the most recent being on Friday. We can no longer tolerate gang raping or those engaging in sex business in town. They are exposing innocent Kenyans to unprecedented risks and we have to deal with those who might be perpetuating this,” he said.

He promised that a crackdown will soon be carried out on various hot spots in which the sex workers are believed to be meeting their clients with Kawanjii area identified as the leading spot.
