Uasin Gishu County Commissioner Abdi Hassan has put on notice officers who collude with sex pests to ensure that the cases are settled out of court that they will be sacked and prosecuted.
Speaking in his office on Tuesday, Hassan said settling child defilement cases out of court is unconstitutional and infringes on the rights of the child.
"I have received many complaints from the public that I am working on. There are police officers who arrest suspects who have defiled minors but release them after getting some bribes so that the cases can be settled in a kangaroo court.”
“This will definitely not give justice to the minors since the case will be solved after the culprit pays a few animals and money. I am warning such officers who put money first instead of children’s rights that they will be arrested, prosecuted and shown the door for incompetence and laxity," he said.
He urged parents to ensure that in case of defilement, their daughters should not take a bath so as not to tamper with the evidence.
They should also report the incident to the police who will direct them to go to the hospital where they will be examined and a report filed to commence prosecution.
"I also give a stern warning to parents who accept cash for them to keep mum when their daughters have been defiled that they will also face the law. They should report such incidents within 24 hours for action to be taken," he added.
