Thika Traffic Base commander Ms Apelles Chacha on Saturday led traffic police and the National Transport Safety Authority (NTSA) in confiscating 13 vehicles on Thika Road.

She led the traffic officers to set two road blocks, one at Castle Breweries and another at Delmonte junction on the Nairobi-Meru highway.

Chacha said all the vehicles, both Public Service and the Personal vehicles, were inspected and those that didn't meet the road safety standards were impounded and drivers apprehended.

She said un-roadworthy vehicles are the main causes of accidents in Thika area adding they have taken the initiative of conducted inspections at random so as to curb accidents.

The officer pointed out that traffic police officers who will be found taking bribes to release vehicles at any point will face the law.

She said they are not going to tolerate any more deaths in Thika.

Chacha estimated the number of deaths caused by accidents to be 40 in the last month only.
