Police in Nakuru are questioning the owner of an underground water tank in which two children drowned and died over the weekend.

The two children, aged 5 and 6, drowned in the water tank on Saturday in Barut estate. The families said the children went to play in the neighbourhood but failed to return home, prompting a search of their whereabouts.

Their bodies were found floating in the water tank after a frantic search of the children by their families.

Confirming the incident, Nakuru police commander Bernard Kioko said police officers had commenced investigations into the matter.

The minors’ bodies were taken to the Nakuru General Hospital mortuary.
