Makongeni OCS Samuel Khisa on Thursday morning led a group of community policing members in a meeting aimed at consolidating efforts in fighting crime.
Khisa said that the police have been struggling to fight crime without the support of the residents since officers in the area were swapped after a series of attacks that eroded trust from the public.
"I appeal to all Makongeni residents to work with the local administration and the police to ensure we end insecurity in this area," he said.
Komo chief Daniel Waiguru who was also present said insecurity was overwhelming law enforcers since residents were not providing information to the police.
"Insecurity can only be fought through collaboration as criminals live among us. The public must identify criminals without fear," he said.
Waiguru says there exists mistrust and fear among residents towards the police that prevents them from freely giving out information.
Khisa expressed optimism that residents will cooperate and abandon fear an mistrust to ensure better security in the area.
