Police in Thika on Saturday seized over 800 litres of chang’aa and apprehended 19 people among them three brewers of the illicit brew in Witeithie area.

The operation was led by Thika Deputy Administration Police Commander Dismus Kimathi. He was accompanied by the Witeithie AP boss Sergeant James Linguli.

Kimathi said the security officers and county officers have partnered in the fight against the illicit brews in Thika and Juja sub-counties.

He said they have received two land rovers from the county government which have helped them fast-track the raids as there used to be delays before due to lack of patrols vehicles.

The officer lauded the members of public in Thika for their positive attitude towards the police during the raids. He noted that most of the information they are getting from the public has been yielding fruits.

The county government of Kiambu has expressed its disappointment after the Nacada boss John Mututho blamed the government for the deaths in Kiandutu, Thika sub-county this week.

Speaking to the press when he accompanied the police in the fight against the illicit brews in Juja sub-county on Saturday, the County Secretary Mr Fredrick Kitema said that they are not to blame as they did their best in ensuring the licensed alcoholic manufacturers are producing safe drinks.

He said that the one that killed was not illegal but expired having been dumped in undesignated area.
