Police in Molo sub-county are investigating an incident where the body of a middle-aged man was found dumped in a pit latrine over the weekend.

The deceased, identified as Hamisi Maranga, was found in Kapsita village by residents who were attracted by an awful smell coming from the latrine.

“There was a very strong unpleasant smell coming from the latrine and on checking, we found the man’s body,” said Shem Odero, a resident.

A police officer investigating the case, who spoke on condition of anonymity because he is not allowed to discuss the matter in public, said officers are interrogating the wife of the deceased, Eunice Maranga, in connection with the death.

He said the body had several injuries. He added that the man might have been attacked, killed and his body dumped in the pit latrine.

The officer revealed that some of the information the police have is that the couple had quarrelled over how to share a Sh100,000 dowry.

The victim’s body was taken to a local mortuary where a post-mortem examination will be conducted to establish the cause of the death.
