A Gesima politician has criticised Nyamira MCAs for over lack of focus and allegedly supporting the governor without necessarily keeping him on check.

Speaking at a church ceremony at Nyamotenenio in Kitutu Masaba constituency on Sunday, Mr Charles Maroko said most MCAs from Nyamira were not critical enough on the administration of Governor John Nyagarama, hence giving the executive easy time of sitting on their back.

He challenged MCAs to play their role of legislating, representing and oversight without politicising issues or defending the governor from corruption-related allegations.

“Our county has been recently in the headlines for apparently all wrong reasons. I don’t blame national leaders especially MPs and the governor and his team. The issue of oversight is purely the role of MCAs but unfortunately they have abandoned their respective roles,” he said.

Mr Maroko urged Nyamira residents to do a total overhaul in the 2017 polls and elect MCAs who cannot be compromised easily by county administration.

“We need a change and the change must be in the entire county. Residents have an opportunity to change the current crop or MCAs and elect people who cannot be compromised by the regime especially on matters corruption,” he said.

However, Rigoma MCA Benson Sironga defended his colleagues from the scathing attacks and urged aspiring leaders to give the county government easy time.

“You all understand that devolution is new and MCAs we are doing our best. Let us not make judgments based on rumours and hear says,” he said.
