Hundreds of youths from Gesima ward in Nyamira have a reason to smile after a seasoned politician agreed to support their bid to start modern poultry farming.
Speaking at the region on Monday after meeting Kitutu Masaba aspiring MP Victor Ogeto, they reiterated their ambition to start modern poultry farming by acquiring cages from China, which cost Sh40,000 each.
Mr Ogeto relieved the youths by offering to donate Sh500,000 to support the project, besides promising to organise harambee to increase the amount due to the large number of the youths interested in the project.
“We have been finding the way to start the project but due to limited funds, we had to postpone the ides all this time. But it is an honour that our friend and politician Ogeto has agreed to support us and we must thank him for that,” said chairman Peter Maeche.
Mr Ogeto urged political leaders from the region to support the youths not only from the ward but also in other five wards within the region in a bid to empower more youths who are said to be jobless.
“The number of unemployed youths is worrying and time has come for us to solve the crisis. I will donate my Sh500,000 towards the project and I urge political leaders to join me and support such courses. Supporting the youths should be unconditional,” he said.
The group has been soliciting for funds to support poultry farming and all the 150 members paid Sh500 as registration fee.
