Uasin Gishu County Deputy Governor Daniel Chemno has asked elected leaders across the country to support campaigns that will foster unity among Kenyans.
Speaking when he flagged off the Inter-County Games at County Hall Grounds in Eldoret on Monday, Chemno said that the country needs unity.
He said that for the country to prosper and achieve its development goals there must be peace and unity.
He noted that unity will ensure a peaceful environment for development adding that elected leaders have a role to play in promoting unity.
“Elected leaders and politicians should stop political witch-hunt and instead support campaigns aimed at bringing unity in the country,” said Chemno.
He said that through activities like sports it will be easier to foster unity and peace among Kenyans.
Kenyans love peace and unity, said Chemno, adding that it is politicians who causes conflict and hatred among them.
The Deputy Governor urged county governments to organise programmes that will bring the communities together in a bid to boost peaceful coexistence.
The Inter-County Games starts on Monday and will end on Wednesday with teams from the 47 counties competing in various sports.
