The Kenya National Union of Teachers (Knut) Masaba Branch Executive Secretary Meshack Obonyo has warned the political class against looking down upon teachers yet they are occupying such positions courtesy of teachers who taught them and ensured they succeeded in life.

Speaking at Boburia village in Masaba South sub county on Wednesday during the burial of the late Tom Nyagaka, the teachers' trade unionist expressed concerns on the way the political class in the country was treating Kenyan teachers yet they play an important role in the country's socio-economic development.

"I am warning political leaders against ridiculing and despising teachers whenever they are fighting for their constitutional rights and welfare, instead support them because they play a noble role in the country's socio-economic development," Obonyo said.

Obonyo, however, decried the emerging culture of impunity among some political leaders whom he accused of setting a dangerous precedent by failure to respect the rule of law, especially court orders and other judicial verdicts affecting them.
