Marioshoni Ward Representative Agnes Jerotich has appealed to the national government to supply residents with electricity.

Speaking at Marioshoni trading center on Tuesday, the MCA said that many residents have no electricity connection, which has greatly affected their businesses.

Mrs Jerotich said connecting the Ward with electricity would go a long way in promoting economic growth. She observed that schools in the area depend on diesel power generators which are both expensive and unreliable.

“We want to ask the national government to supply us with electricity so that our students can learn easily,” she said.

The MCA complained that the Ward has been abandoned compared to other areas.

“I urge the national government to listen to the plea of residents and supply us with power,” she said.

The MCA said that though President Uhuru Kenyatta announced reduction in electricity tariffs last month no action has been made towards connecting the area. She appealed to the county government to intervene and make sure that they have power before the end of the year.

Mrs Jerotich also called for repair of roads connecting the Ward. “Our economy is being hurt by poor roads and infrastructure when we have a government that should be working on improving roads,” she said.

The MCA said that she has made several pleas to the county in regards to poor roads but no action has been made.
