Gilgil nominated senator Martha Wangari has faulted the government's plan to bailout the troubled Kenya Airways to save it from collapsing.
Wangari instead asked the government to probe the matter and take legal action on those found culpable for the losses.
“The government should not keep pumping money into poorly managed public corporations but should take legal action against those responsible for for mismanaging public resources,” said Wangari. “Those responsible for the KQ losses should be probed, arraigned in court and prosecuted,” added the senator.
She spoke on Monday in Gilgil town during the United Democratic Forum (UDF) National Governing Council (NGC).
The airline has been on a loss making streak.Last week, the national carrier reported a loss of Sh26 billion in the 2014-15 financial year.
The KQ management has however exonerated itself from the blame citing tough economic times in the wake of the Ebola outbreak in its key routes of west Africa and stiff competition from other airlines.
Terrorism, travel advisories and unstable jet fuel have also been attributed for the staggering losses.
Wangari urged the government to move quickly and stem further collapse of state-owned corporations.
“KQ has joined the list of worst performing government corporations like the Kenya Meat Commission and Mumias Sugar,” said Wangari .
The UDF nominated senator said citizens have a constitutional right to know how the state resources are utilised.
