Kiambu County Commissioner Esther Maina has called on civil servants to re-dedicate their efforts in serving Kenyans in a bid to steer development in the area.
Speaking in her office on Tuesday, Maina said Kenyans were more enlightened now than a few years ago and the need for effective and efficient services is set to intensify.
"Both national and county government workers are expected to work harmoniously and ensure that service delivery to Kenyans is improved," she said.
She said workers in both levels of the government must cultivate a consultative and collaborative system of working instead of engaging in turf wars that only end up impacting negatively to service delivery.
"National government workers are committed to co-operating with their county government counterparts and offer requisite advice and support to ensure that the development programmes initiated by the county government succeed," said Maina.
She urged area residents to be pro-active and demand improved services from the civil service since it was their right.
Maina especially appealed to administrators including chiefs and their assistants to re-double their efforts in ensuring that security is provided to all Kenyans and that crime is eradicated.
She maintained that the administrators would be held personally liable if any security lapses occur in their areas of jurisdiction.
She added that vigilance among security organs was paramount especially now that the country was facing security challenges.
Maina said police bosses throughout the county have been directed to be vigilant and deal decisively with elements that were a threat to security of residents and their properties.
She called for strict enforcement of the alcohol laws saying that no country could develop if it allowed its citizens to indulge in alcohol at the expense of participating in development initiatives.
