Nyamira County Police Commander Daniel Cheruiyot has urged the public to stop giving bribes to police officers in a bid to escape trial.
Cheruiyot apportioned blame on the public for the high rise of corruption in the country by agreeing to bribe the overzealous police officers.
“The public should be warned that any attempt to bribe officers to gain freedom will be dealt with. Just go to court and secure your release,” cautioned Cheruiyot.
He said that county anti-corruption committees will be strengthened and enhanced to fight corruption in the region.
“We will ensure that corruption committees are formed and reinforced in all the five sub-counties in the county,” added Cheruiyot.
He was speaking early Wednesday at Kebirigo Shopping centre at the sidelines of an anti-corruption campaign rolled out by various heads of departments by the national police service in the region.
The county chief commended the police officers for their effort in fighting corruption, and asked the public to offer vital information which will be treated in secrecy.
“The County Corruption Committees and those in sub-counties meet monthly and weekly respectively before we compare notes on the graft levels,” he concluded.
