Kiambu Governor William Kabogo wants opposition leader Raila Odinga to testify in the case facing Deputy President William Ruto and Joshua Sang at the International Criminal Court (ICC).

Kabogo, who spoke at Ndumberi Grounds during Mashujaa Day celebrations, accused the former Prime Minister of betraying DP Ruto who was in his camp during the 2007 general election.

He said that the Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (Cord) leader should stop giving conditions and instead testify in the case and tell the ICC the truth about what happened during the 2007/2008 post-poll skirmishes that rocked the country.

“Raila and his colleagues should stop giving us conditions and instead travel to the Hague and tell the court what happened so that our Deputy President and Sang can be free men,” he said.

Kabogo noted that the case facing Ruto and Sang will end if Raila and his camp testify for the Deputy President and his co-accused Sang.

Kabogo said that confession by Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria that he and others procured evidence to fix Ruto is a clear indication that Ruto and Sang are innocent.

At the same time, Kabogo has called for objectivity in the prayer rallies organised to pray for Ruto and Sang.

He raised concerns saying that the words being used by some leaders during the rallies could easily open healing wounds of those who were affected by the 2007/2008 post-election violence (PEV).

“Even as we pray for Ruto and Sang I urge leaders to be objective and concentrate on the prayers,” he said, adding that the country is still in a healing mode following the post-election clashes.

On the same note, Kabogo said that the confessions by Kuria that he and others fixed Ruto are his own and does not belong to a region.

“The confessions being made by Kuria that he and others fixed the deputy president are his own and not for a region,” said Kabogo.

Governor Kabogo called on leaders across the political divide to focus on uniting the country noting that the country is only two years away from the 2017 general election.

Leaders allied to The National Alliance Party (TNA) and the United Republican Party (URP) plus other affiliated parties have been holing a series of prayers in support of the deputy president and Sang who are facing charges against humanity at the ICC in relation to the 2007/2008 post-election skirmishes.
