A 51-year old man who defiled a 15-year-old girl and gave her money and chips to buy her silence was jailed for 15years by a Kisumu court on Wednesday.
Nicholas Omondi from Muhoroni was convicted by Kisumu chief magistrate Esther Maina after the prosecution proved the case beyond reasonable doubts. According to the prosecution, during the period extending from October to December 2013, Omondi would lure the girl and sexually abuse her at his house and give her goodies so that she would not tell anyone.
The court heard that the matter only came to light when the girl’s brother asked her why Omondi was giving her food. It is then that she narrated her ordeal to him.
The matter was reported to the police leading to Omondi’s arrest.
The girl was sent to Hospital for a medical examination where a report was compiled and used in court as evidence.
Omondi, in his defence, denied the charges saying that the evidence was fabricated.
“Your honour, the girl is the one who came to my place saying she has been sent by her brothers to ask for food as they did not have any and I gave her food,” Omondi told the court.
In passing the sentence, the magistrate said she took into account Omondi’s age and that he is a family man and the sole bread winner who should lead by example.
