Lela residents in Kisumu County have urged the Kenya Power to cut on the number of power outages experienced in the area saying the situation inconvenience them a lot.
They claim that blackouts in the area have been increasing in the area adding that of late power blackouts are experienced for up to five hours in a day. They also said the trend has been on the rise in the past one month.
The area which is served by two electricity lines, unlike before when one line was cut off the other was on, but currently the cut off affects both lines.
“We don’t know what is happening with our electricity, we understand sometimes there is need for regulation but this is too much since it is affecting our business,” said Evans Kipkoech, a resident of Lela.
Most businesses that depend on electricity have stalled because they cannot cope with the frequent blackouts experienced in the area, leaving even charging of phones a nightmare for residents as they have to walk to neighbouring areas to charge the gadgets.
“For two weeks my salon has not been open because electricity power has become a luxury despite the fact that we are paying for it,” said Michelle Olela.
The residents added that their security has been in jeopardy over the last few days because security lights are also grounded.
They are now calling on Kenya Power to rectify the situation as they have not been given any explanation regarding the matter.
Efforts to get a comment from Kenya Power regional offices in Kisumu were futile as we were informed the person in charge of the power supply was not available.
