Children from five primary schools in Mekenene Ward in Borabu have a reason to smile after the area MCA bought five water tanks worth Sh1.2 million that will aide in water harvesting during the rainy season.

Alfayo Ngeresa donated the water tanks after reports emerged some teachers were subjecting the pupil's guardians into fetching water for use in the schools.

Speaking during the donation on Thursday at Highway Primary in Chepilat, Mr Ngeresa said the program will be rolled out to five other institutions in the region with secondary schools also being targeted.

“I had to heed to reports that parents were told to fetch water and take to the institutions," he said.

"I think they have some better work to do than that. I will deliver the same to remaining primary schools before we again embark on secondary school level."

Mr Ngeresa said the program will enhance water fetching in the expected El Nino season and urged residents to take advantage of the rains ahead of December and January dry spell.

“Fetching of water this rainy season is important not only to our schools but to our institutions. We must be proactive to avert the impeding dry spell in the months of December and January. We do not want to see a situation where people walk for long distances in search of water,” said the MCA.

Highway primary, Mekenene, Riosanda, Magura and Mwongori primary schools are among the beneficiaries.
