A Naivas Supermarket branded lorry was yesterday spotted offloading supplies at a building recently earmarked to host Uchumi Supermarket in Limuru town.
Uchumi removed fittings and furnishings installed in the freshly constructed building as residents expected it to open a branch there.
However, the grand opening never happened as they stripped the building off their fittings including pulling down of its signboard which was placed on the building.
Residents who spotted the Naivas lorry said there was renewed hope that another supermarket would come to the region.
Ms Jane Wanjeri, a salonist said: "We need competition among the supermarkets in the area, and although we were disappointed when Uchumi pulled out, we hope Naivas comes on board."
Wanjeri said the coming of Naivas would also be a source of employment for the locals.
"Our people need jobs, and those employed there will need accommodation and other supplies and services and our Limuru economy will grow," said Wanjeri.
Mr Robert Owino said he was happy that Limuru was attracting many investors adding the coming of Naivas was another proof that Limuru was a viable location for investors.
"Investors are surely scrambling to get a piece of Limuru. This will be made true by the coming of Naivas just days after Uchumi pulled out," said Owino.
Uchumi supermarket has is facing financial constraints and had to scale down.
The Limuru branch is allegedly one of those that suffered setbacks from the financial constraints.
