Residents of Mavoko constituency have been told to be vigilant in a bid to curb rape and defilement cases in the region.
Addressing youth at the CDF offices in Athi River on Sunday, area MP, Patrick Makau, said instances of rape and defilement in the constituency were on the rise.
"I call on all the residents of Mavoko Constituency to be wary of 'sex pests' in their midst who defile children and rape women in our communities," said Makau.
Makau said there were certain business men in Athi River Town who have reportedly been taking advantage of their money to engage in sexual relationships with minors.
He said the culprits lure young girls more so from poor backgrounds within Athi River slums with petty money and cheap goodies.
He said the vice compromises the victims' education stating that some of the defiled children had dropped out of school as others performed poorly due to psycho-trauma.
"I as the people's representative condemn the act. Some of those who defile children, have female children of their own," said Makau.
This comes barely a week after women from Athi River Town led by Mavoko Sub-County Maendeleo ya Wanawake leadership protested against release of a defilement suspect from Athi River Police Station.
He said all the constituents should be their brothers keepers and report culprits of any form of child abuse and molestation.
Makau said the suspects should be named and shamed and urged law enforcers to ensure the culprits are arrested and arraigned in court.
