Public servants in Nyamira County have been put on notice by the county boss in a move aimed at improving the efficiency of services rendered to area residents.
Speaking at Ting’a market on his way to Rigoma grounds ahead of the World Food Celebrations on Friday, governor John Nyagarama urged residents to be vigilant on servants employed and paid using tax payers money.
Mr Nyagarama said it was unrealistic for him to know who violated rights of citizens in every department and urged residents to work closely with his government to crack a whip on lazy officials.
“They (workers) are there in offices to work for all of us. They have to do what is right and therefore, we should be responsible by reporting those who are lazy and inefficient for action to be taken. We have so many departments and those being served should assess high quality services and report to us in case the services are below par,” he said.
He said fighting corruption is the responsibility of all members of the public.
“My government does not condone corruption. If someone asks for a bribe to deliver services, you also have an obligation to report the matter. By accepting to give a bribe for services, it means you are also corrupt. Let us fight this menace together,” said the governor.
He said the county government was keen to promote agriculture sector, the chief contributor towards the economy in the county.
“I am trying my best to help farmers get the best out of their farms. We started with dairy farmers and we will soon go to other farmers. We want to empower farming because it is the central economic activity in the county,” he said.
