Kisii County Health Promotion Officer Yvonne Kengere has urged area residents to avail their children under five for Polio vaccination that will kick off soon in the area.
She said polio is real but has no cure though it can be prevented through vaccination. Kengere challenged parents to report immediately to nearby health facility children less than 15 years showing signs of polio.
Kengere said any child less than 15 years with signs of failure to walk or difficulties to lift something due to weak bones should see the doctor immediately for polio test.
She faulted parents who administer their children with local herbs whenever polio signs are noted saying that failure to intervene polio within 14 days will lead to permanent disability.
“Polio can be treated when the case is intervened within 14 days,” she said.
Kengere said polio is a viral disease that weakens the victims’ ability to walk and touch. She also added that the disease destroys the tissue which finally leads to permanent disability.
The officer said the county polio vaccination campaign will be officially launched at Kisii Primary School in few days time that will be announced.
She said all residents should shun hear says that polio vaccine has negative impact on children.
