Residents of Thika west sub-county have appealed to the county and national government to install lighting arresters.
They claimed incidents of lighting strikes had increased in the area.
"This is an issue of urgency, we have in the past experienced massive destruction of property and lives, lets treat this seriously and hope that the government will hear us," said Morris Mbugua.
Speaking to press today a group of farmers who had gathered in a seminar in Thika Probation Hall, the farmers pointed out that residents in the area live in fear due to the expected El nino rains.
They expressed fear that the rains might come with the strikes.
"We are living in fear," another resident said.
"The expected El Nino rains have caused fear to us. If the arresters are installed early, the better."
The Met department recently announced that some parts of the country will be receiving high amounts of rainfall.
