A heavy downpour hit Makongeni in Thika and its surroundings on Monday night ushering in what could be the much anticipated El Nino rains.
The downpour continued early Tuesday morning leaving many residents going to work to look for umbrellas and other materials to cover themselves from the unforgiving rain.
Few days into the month of October, some residents had started doubting and questioning the accuracy of the weatherman's predictions about El Nino rains.
"I expected that the rains would start on October 1 but when days started to tick with no indication of any rain, I started to doubt", John Maina, a hardware seller caught up in the rain said.
Herder Jeff Kamau said he was glad that the rains are finally here noting that the pastures had started to diminish.
John Gikeri, a bodaboda operator said: "Our boda business will now be at a stand-still till the rain is over. Many people prefer matatus over bodabodas during the rainy season."
Hot sun and blue sky have characterised the weather of Makongeni since the start of October with no indications of an incoming rain.
