Kyangulu residents have called on the local administration in Kathiani sub-county to conduct a raid against night runners who are alleged to be theft suspects in the area.Speaking on Thursday at the Kathiani, members of public told their chief that the people who attack them at night and steal from their households are residents in the area who pretend to be night runners to scare people. They raised an alarm that the number of the runners is increasing as nothing is done due to fear of being bewitched and thus the residents are suffering on the hands of few ill-intentioned people."These people are very scary and it's hard to storm their homes and arrest them. We need combined efforts in dealing with the incident as they are really causing a havoc amongst us," one of the residents, who sought anonymity due to fear of intimidation said."We have no police post in the area and the security officers don take their patrols there. We need several officers to seize these night runners," he added. The chief, John Mainda, said that it is so unfortunate that the residents fear reporting to the authorities due to fear of intimidation and witchcraft. He vowed to involve his seniors, among them the area commissioner, to ensure they get some security officers guard them at night and conduct raids to ensure the group is eliminated for good.He added that he will do his best to fight crime in the area and called on the public to give a hand to the police and chiefs in fighting crime.
