Residents of Kiamuchii village, in Thika East Sub-County of Kiambu county are displeased over the increased brewing of illicit liquor in the region despite the government’s commitments to eradicate the vice.

Speaking on Sunday, the residents said that they continuously report to the local administration whereby arrests are made but the culprits continue brewing even after they are arraigned in court and charged.

One resident speaking on condition of anonymity said that the brewers have even threatened them with death if they continue reporting them to the police while claiming that the brews are their source of livelihood.

The resident added that the drinking dens have escalated crime in the area thus making part of the regions no go zones when darkness sets in with incidences of rape that normally go unreported.

They are now urging the government to move with speed to eradicate the vice or to advise the courts to impose heftier fines.

Area OCPD Daniel Chacha said that the police are aware of some hideouts by the brewers who they are pursuing. He also added that the police are planning on how to storm the dens.
