Tension continues to intensify among locals around Moi University following the killing of a teenager in the area.
The locals, led by bodaboda operators have severally held meetings from noon concerning the issue as fears increase among residents.
The deceased teenager, Joash Cheruiyot, was a primary school pupil. He was found dead in the morning on Thursday at a plantation in Ngeria Village, a few kilometres from the campus. The boy’s attackers cut his neck.
Cheruiyuot was allegedly attacked at night when carrying a passenger who is believed to be the organiser of the attack which took place on Wednesday night.
The incident was followed by a demonstration by the bodaboda operators who went to Kesses District Office in an attempt to express their anger. The operators blamed the police for not acting to apprehend such criminals.
The angry residents were calmed by area chief William Tarus who promised to do further investigation to find the attackers.
“We seriously condemn this act and will soon get to the bottom as we seek those who did this,” Tarus explained.
The matter did not however stop at that after a group of the locals identified one person as the prime suspect. This spurred more chaos as residents rained on the suspect with stones and kicks. The police were however quick to rescue the man and calmed the angry crowd but tension still remained high.
The residents have been complaining of the security teams’ negligence as far as security is concerned. They pleaded with the local government to help improve security in the region.
