Nyamira residents have been urged to plant trees during the anticipated Elnino rains so that they can help in climate change campaign.
Speaking early Wednesday at Makairo Shopping centre, Bogichora Ward Representative Beuttah Omanga said planting trees has a lot of benefits since it could improve the region's environment.
He further said individual farmers should take it upon themselves to set aside at least 10 percent of their land for planting trees in enhancement of the forest cover in the county which he said currently stands at 12 percent.
Omanga added that said he has realised the need to nurture children from a young age into coming to love environmental conservation, hence the initiative would see the area maintain a good environment.
He added that the current tree cover is about 4.7 percent of the area, a figure which he lamented to be low, and called on residents to make sure that the number improves to about 10 percent.
Omanga said he will make sure that every household receive trees so that they can plant with ease and at no cost.
