Residents in Mavoko Sub-County have been asked to support charitable initiatives in a bid to improve the lives of the less privileged in society.
The call was made by Athi River Senior Assistant Commissioner, Philip Lemalasia, who said that charitable organisations play an important role in bridging the gap between the rich and poor in the community.
"I urge all those privileged in society to develop a positive attitude towards assisting charitable organisations to support the needy in Mavoko sub-county," said he.
He said the number of needy people in the region was on the rise more so children and elderly who he said should be supported to enable them live decent lives.
Lemalasia who addressed press in his office on Friday, lauded management of the Athi River based Bondeni Children Rescue Centre for its commitment to rescue and support orphans and needy children.
He said that the institution is the only one of its kind in the entire sub-county and had great impact on the lives of children under its care hence the need for residents to accord it maximum support to ensure efficiency in its operations.
The commissioner also called on the locals to turn up in large numbers on Sunday for the home's marathon which will see several participants run 10,000 kilometres with intent of supporting a child.
