Nyamira County residents now wants the county government to ban motorists from using a road that connects Nyainogu and Nyabara Ibere market due to danger posed to them.
This comes after at least five people (pedestrians) reportedly got involved in fatal accidents in the month of September at the region.
Speaking to the writer during an explicit interview on Thursday, the residents led by Mr Cornelius Manwa said the road (recently innovated) was too steep to be used by motorists hence urged the county government to impose a ban on motorists to avert more incidents of casualties.
“We appreciate the commitment of the county government of Nyamira in renovating the road but it’s costing us negatively than we thought. Imagine that at least five people have been involved in fatal accidents and one was permanently crippled. The county should close this route and dedicate it to only pedestrians,” he said.
They said though the move might be received with criticism from motorists, it was the only lasting solution to the menace that could see more people get injured or succumbs.
“We know it’s not a good move to them (motorists) but they have to bear with us. Its good we have noticed the danger and it will be prudent if the county responds expeditiously,” he added.
Their plea was supported by the area MCA Buttah Omanga who said he was in touch with the roads committee to solve the crisis.
“They have already informed me and I have too told the Roads committee. I am waiting for their decision and hope they will consider it,” he spoke to the writer on phone.
