Uasin Gishu County Lands and Housing CeC Robert Ngiserey has warned residents against renting houses in buildings that are still under construction.

Speaking to journalists in his office on Monday, the CeC said that cases of tenants renting houses that have not been completed are on the rise a situation he said puts their lives in danger.

Ngiserey asked tenants to consider their own safety before renting houses or buildings that are poorly constructed. The CeC also warned landlords who rent out such buildings that legal action would be taken against them.

"We are aware that some rogue landlords are renting houses that are still under construction to tenants and want to tell them that we are coming for them," he said.

He said an inspection to get rid of rogue contractors will be launched soon in the county, adding that the county is working with relevant agencies to make sure that construction regulations are followed to the letter.

The lands CeC added that the county government will only issue construction licenses to contractors who are approved by the relevant agencies. He also cautioned contractors against using substandard materials saying that cases of contractors going for cheap construction materials pose a risk to prospective residents.
