Retired medical practitioners have been encouraged to continue giving back to their communities through various health-related development programmes and initiatives which transform lives of the local communities.

Daraja United Women and Youths Empowerment Organization(DAUWOYE)a Kisii-based NGO,Chief Executive Officer,Winfridah Abuya has underscored the importance of retired medical practioners to utilize their professional trainings and career experiences to initiate health-related projects targeting local communities,instead of retiring only to die with the professional skills to the detriment of the communities.

Speaking at a Kisii hotel during the launch of her organization's Closing the Gap(CtG),a reproductive health project funded by the Planned Parenthood  Federation of America(PPFA) to be implemented by DAUWOYE for a period of three year's.

"I am challenging medical practitioners from this community not to retire and tire with their professional skills in the health services sector,instead they should put their previous professional skills and experiences in the medical career into action to transform their communities,"stated Abuya

Abuya disclosed that,support from PPFA through CtG reproductive health project will ensure the ten private sector healthcare facilities partnering with her organization will improve on their reproductive health services to their clients and transform living standards of the local communities to continue contributing to socio-economic development of the county.

Under the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the ten private health facilities and her organization, Abuya clarified that in the first year of the project the facilities will be supplied with equipment and commodity supplies for free by DAUWOYE,but they will be encouraged to do their savings to facilitate them start purchasing their commodity supplies starting from the second year of the project.

The commodity supplies will be procured by DAUWOYE and be sold to the facilities at subsidized costs to enhance their capacity and quality service delivery to their clients.
