Politics took centre stage on Sunday at a burial ceremony in Gesima after former councillor accused Riamoni Chief of collaboration with the current Gesima MCA Ken Atuti to defraud the public.
In a heated argument in front of mourning public, Julius Nyachieo demanded to know why Francis Rasugu (Chief) failed to incorporate residents over an agreement to scoop sand from a government owned land.
He said the chief was wrongly using his powers to pocket money from contractors repairing roads in the ward against the law.
“We are the public and hence all matters pertaining the public must be brought to our attention. The land that the chief is protecting for contractors to scoop sand belongs to the government therefore, they must submit money back to the government,” he said.
However, physically agitated chief Francis Rasugu asked the former councillor to investigate issues thoroughly before bringing them to the public besides declaring him an impediment to development.
“Sometimes it is quite absurd that a grown up can stand and question me over the piece of land. The land belongs to the government and I authorized the contractors to use the sand. The former councillor is acting childishly and is actually an impediment to development,” Rasugu said.
He defended his move to allow the contractors to use the land for the purpose of getting sand since the county government is said to have allocated little money for renovation of feeder roads.
“I acted in order after being asked by the MCA. The county had not given enough money and that is why we had to take the initiative,” he said.
