Residents of Rigoma Ward in Nyamira County have accused the county government of failing to repair the poor state of feeder roads which have been rendered impassible especially during this rainy season.
On Thursday, a group of residents took to the ward headquarters condemning the county leadership of alleged discrimination of the region.
According to the residents, area MCA Ben Sironga had failed to honour his pledge of renovating two important feeder roads linking the rural area to the Rigoma Township, hence demanding his immediate resignation as MCA.
“The status of many of our feeder roads is disgusting given the immense downfalls the region is experiencing currently. This is a total failure of the county government because they had assured us of the expeditious step to have the problem resolved. It’s really absurd that we have been kept waiting,” said Amos Masira, who spoke on behalf of the residents.
They accused Sironga of persistently ignoring to treat the matter with the urgency it deserves, besides calling for his immediate resignation.
“The MCA is a total failure to this region. He is the chairperson of the roads committee but he is yet to respond to our plea. We want him out of office and we are going to use all the legal channels to achieve it,” he added.
Efforts to get a comment from the MCA were futile, although official records from the county government showed he was in Kigali attending a transport meeting with officials from the county government.
