The opposition Orange Democratic Movement has said the party's Tuesday elections in Kisumu were conducted unconstitutionally.

The party said members who disrupted activities during the primaries will be identified and banned from taking part in party events for five years.

ODM National Elections Board Commissioner for Nyanza region, Peter Odoyo said the election of Dave Okwatch as the chairman and his team was unconstitutional.

Odoyo said the party's constitution is clear on how to conduct elections and termed yesterday’s elections as illegal.

He said Okwatch was a contender in the election but hijacked the process alongside his supporters to declare himself as the duly elected chairman.

“How can Okwatch be the referee and at the same time be a player. His supporters engaged in acts of violence and hooliganism,” he said.

Speaking on Wednesday to this writer on phone, Odoyo said the party will issue a comprehensive statement after seven days.

He said ODM party has structures and laid down procedures for any election and will not allow some people to hijack the party.

Odoyo announced that the party will be forced to ban some members from party activities for a period of five years should they be found culpable.

“Within seven days, the party will make some announcements regarding what happened at Tom Mboya Labour College on Tuesday,” he said.

He further announced that within 30 days, two delegates each from the seven constituencies will elect Kisumu County party office bearers.

Odoyo said the delegates will be charged with the responsibility to come out with names of officials for Kisumu County.
