Parents in Ruiru have been blamed for the rise in teenage pregnancies and early marriages.
Speaking at a women development forum on Wednesday at Ruiru Baptist Church, the chairlady Jane Njeri said cases of teenage pregnancies and early marriages were alarming.
She said the vices were impacting on the future generation, noting that majority of parents have neglected their daughter's needs, a move that has left the girls to explore on their own.
She revealed that 90 per cent of the teenage girls who are married didn't do it willingly but situations forced them into them.
The chairlady said such parents instead blame poverty and even go to an extent of sending their children out to sell their bodies to get money.
She said serious action should be taken against such parents.
She said children need education, a right that the parents were denying their daughters when they marry them off to old men in exchange for cash.
"Its high time parents should realise that those daughters are more valuable than the money they get after selling them. However, as women in this region, we are determined to stop these menace once and for all," said Njeri.
She said women in the region have formed a campaign dubbed Save the girl child in a bid to save those girls from early marriages and pregnancies.
