Chief Danvas Mogire of Kibera’s Sarang’ombe location on Tuesday led his team in pulling down and destroying allegedly unlawful posters put up by herbalists and fraudsters on poles and walls in the area.
The exercise that was flagged off at Sarang’ombe chief’s camp is scheduled to cover the entire location in a bid to rid of ‘unnecessary’ advertisement that according to the chief, are aimed at misleading vulnerable residents.
Addressing the media at his offices during the launch of the exercise, chief Mogire expressed concern over what he termed as mushrooming of ‘fake’ herbalists in the area who take advantage of the problems facing the residents for their own self interest.
“I have instructed my team to destroy all the posters that are illegally put up by those who pretend to be doctors, herbalists, and job providers. Recently I have been receiving complaints from residents about fake herbalists who steal from them in the pretence of possessing the ability to make the impossible things possible. There are those who have lost their money through these fraudsters who baptize themselves as witch doctors or herbalists,” said Chief Mogire.
“How can someone put up a poster indicating that he can multiply your money using witchcraft? They ask for money from naïve residents with promises of multiplying them. It is so unfortunate that these residents end up losing their money,” he added.
Mogire also cautioned the residents against falling into the trap of those who claim to possess powers to solve marital or relationship issues.
“Marriages are breaking because of such people. There are those who give what they call ‘love portion’ to people in relationships which in most cases don’t work as expected hence breaking such relationships. We must not fall into the trap of such people,” he expressed.
