A secondary school principal from Masaba North District has accused a section of Board of Management Members for allegedly defaming him in the construction of a modern gate at the institution.
Speaking at Geta SDA on Saturday, Riakworo Principal Masara Ombori said the construction of a modern gate worth Sh500,000 was arrived at by the BOM earlier this year after area MP Timothy Bosire gave the money to the institution.
He said the money was to initially add a new classroom but the board of management unanimously decided to divert it to the gate construction.
“I am aware of people incriminating me on the construction of the new gate. I agree that the money was meant for construction of a new classroom but as the board we decided otherwise due to some reasons well known to everybody,” he said.
According to the Principal, some Board members wanted to be awarded the tender contractor to rules pertaining tender awarding in the institution.
“We have a tender committee in which I obviously don’t sit in it. I therefore don’t know how tendering was done but I was informed that the highest bidder was given the opportunity and has actually done the work. If they wanted tenders, I don’t give tenders to that effect,” he said.
Masara has faced fierce criticism from a section of parents who believes that the modern gate is not worth 0.5 million as suggested by the administration.
However, Julius Tendeka who is leading an onslaught on the principal asked the Ministry of Education and Kitutu Masaba CDF to audit the exercise due to ‘flaws and inconsistency’ on the report given to all parents at the end of May.
