The Ministry of Education has been urged to investigate a Nyamira school head teacher over corruption claims.
Mr Bruce Kerage, who was recently transferred to Kiabonyoru secondary school in Nyamira from Nyakongo, is accused of imposing irregular fees to students without consultations with stakeholders.
Speaking at the institution’s offices on Tuesday, board of management (BOM) chairman Felix Ongoto said the head teacher was acting against the law by failing to incorporate stakeholders in various critical decisions undertaken by his management.
According to them, the institution had sanctioned parents to pay Sh2,000 per child for motivation, raising opposition from a section of school’s parents.
“We are very sad as BOM because parents are accusing us of irregular fee yet we were not told how it was arrived at. The school head is violating the law and the ministry of education should probe him. We had summoned him but you can see he hasn’t shown up,” he said.
They further questioned his leadership style with a section of teachers raising their dissatisfaction with the head teacher’s management tactics.
“Even some teachers have been raising concerns to us. He isn’t ready to listen to anyone ever since he came here early this year. We have written to the ministry and we are seeking an explanation over the same,” he added.
However, Mr Kerage defended the motivation fee saying it was purely an administrative issue that didn’t require the input of BOM.
“There are some issues that we involve BOM and some we don’t. I think teachers needs to be motivated if we want results and as administration, we came up with the decision,” he spoke on phone.
