School heads have been warned against hiding behind their school rules and regulations to protect teachers who sexually abuse and harass their female students.
The International Rescue Committee's(IRC's) Peace Initiative Kenya(PIK) Programmes Officer, Ruth Oywaya has raised concern that some school heads invoked their schools' rules to defend their teachers against being held culpable over cases of sexual harassment and abuse against their female learners within and outside schools.
Speaking at a Kisii hotel during a Gender-Based Violence(GBV) training for Kisii County PIK Project community activists, Oywaya warned school heads against using school rules in the guise of settling sexual abuse cases involving their teachers and their female learners. She argued that all offenders should held accountable for sexually abusing their female pupils.
"The issue of school heads using their school rules as mechanisms of disciplining their teachers who sexually abuse their female learners was against the law, instead they should allow justice to take its course and ensure the sexually abused school girls access justice through the judicial systems of justice,"stated Oywaya.
