Borabu Primary School which faced closure after a warning from the department of Health of Nyamira County over poor state on toilets will open on Monday after parents contributed Sh120,000 to build latrines.
The health officials who issued a warning earlier August were keen to close the school in which girls and boys were reportedly using the same toilets.
Speaking on Sunday when he toured the institution following a call by parents, Mekenene MCA Alfayo Ngeresa lauded parents for heeding the calls to call for a fund raiser to comply with the directive from the department of health.
He accused the national government for failing to tackle the issue despite education still being under the supervisor of the national government.
“I want to thank the parents for organising the harambee towards the project so that our children stay in school," he said.
"The government should understand that education is not devolved and do its work appropriately. They must ensure our schools are properly served."
School chairman Peter Mounde blamed area Borabu CDF committee for allegedly refusing to help even after writing severally to them.
“The CDF committee has completely let us down and area MP Ben Momanyi should know that. We also deserve CDF for such projects so that we do not overload parents. We hope they will help us complete the project since the little we have collected is not enough,” he said.
The institution is set to build two new structures that will serve both boys and girls with the management estimating a cost of Sh200,000.
